"AGE UKE"

One of the shotkan karate-do classical blocks  - age uke. I like this block very much personally for two reason:
- useful block
- great attack ;-)

So, please see my AGE UKE and GYAKU AGE UKE and share your point of view on my mistakes freely. As I am used to say here - I want to learn. So, the more points the better.

Thank you all.
Ossu!

  2. I have watched the video but I do not see the difference between how that sensei (I do not know him - sorry) does it and how I do. May be if I showed my age uke as slowly as he did it would make the same. Please explain what is wrong from your point of view. Do not forget that I am trying to learn from different angles. So, all opinions or ways are interesting! Thanks

  3. On leve le poing avec le bras perpendiculaire au sol comme un upercut si le bras est parallele au sol, l'effort est dans l'épaule.
Si l'on met une résistance pour tester on s'en aperçois tres bien.

  5. Hello

In the JKS we use 'shoulder snap'. The Age uke you are doing has a different application to the one the JKS teach as standard.

I have included a link to a video that explains better.

  7. Thank you so much. Could you tell me what I am doing incorrectly or what I should change please? I practice alone visiting JKS events from time to time. I am sure that my karate has a druft. I just need to know what to work on and where to focus during my keiko. Please advise! Looking at the video you've provided it is difficult for me to understand my issue with this block. Ossu

  8. Did you watch the video (the link I sent you)?

    It explains the difference.

  9. Thank you. I have watched it but didn't understand what I am doing incorrectly. In "my mind" (I do the same shoulder snap), at least it is how I feel it. But if it is incorrect I would like to understand what and how to change it. If you have time please explain. Thank you.

  10. I will do an video explanation just for you tonight. If that's okay? At the moment I will say that your block goes out as opposed to up. Many treat age uke as a strike which is not wrong, just Age uchi, not age uke. Some treat it as a deflection, Age nagashi not age uke. Think about the part of the arm between the wrist and the elbow and foce that upwards.

  13. Cool! Thank you. I am going to try to follow your video. I am a bit surprised about the horizontal position of the blocking part, forearm. Is it supposed to be in parallel to the floor? Thank you so much. I am going then to re-film myself doing the same block later when I acquire this skill. Ossu

  14. Minimum parallel. I have mine sometimes too straight but when something is travelling towards you it takes the minumim effort to move it. I make sure that the forearm is higher than the head you can then pull this over the head for haito uchi as one movement.

  17. Thank you again. I have just watched the JKS DVD to review the AGE UKE. You are right about the JKS way of doing it. I will try to change mine then.

And I was really pleased to read an article in your Rhino-blog about "the grand champion" ;-) I guess I know whom you are talking about and I totally share your point of view from A to Z.

Great video of Shinji Nagaki Sensei as well.
